I have always had a fascination with the human body and the ways in which it can move.
I worked initially as a contemporary dancer/choreographer after finishing my Drama degree. I studied at The Laban Centre for Movement and Dance working with many different training systems to find technical expertise and physical expression. I have been influenced by the founders teachings ever since.
Laban believed that our emotional body reflects the way we move and the way that we move affects our emotional state. They are continually feeding in and out of each other and there should be no separation. In our modern world this circuit has become broken and we have lost that flow and I aim for all my classes whether slow and mindful or fast and dynamic to bring this connection back.
As my dance career came to an end I re-qualified as a personal trainer and moved into Pilates teaching in 2010. Over the years I have had the privilege of working with a huge variety of people with a wide range of emotional and physical differences. My aim has always been the same – to find a way to get each individual to move with as much freedom and confidence as possible and for them to feel fully connected to, and at ease, with themselves.
I personally have tried many avenues to explore my own physicality – dancing running, swimming, cycling, yoga, interval training, resistance work, aikido, squash, circuit training and numerous other fitness-based classes and holistic practices. The disciplines may be different but the motivation is the same – to release tension, to clear my mind and to find a deeper connection with myself through movement. It is an ever-changing and creative challenge which takes positivity and commitment but I love to move and I aim to inspire that in others.
